INGREDIENTS
Dough
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 cup fed sourdough starter
- 🥛 ¾ cup lukewarm milk
- ¾ cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 🧈 ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 🥚 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 🧂 ½ teaspoon salt
Filling
- 🧈 ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Frosting
- 8 ounces confectioners' sugar
- 🧀 1 (4 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 🧈 ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
STEPS
Combine 1 cup flour, starter, milk, white sugar, and yeast in a mixer bowl. Let stand until spongy and bubbling, about 5 minutes.
Add butter, egg, and salt; mix. Gradually mix in remaining 3 cups flour.
Knead dough on a floured surface for 3 to 5 minutes.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
Punch down dough, roll it into a square, spread butter, and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon.
Roll up dough, pinch seam, cut into 8 pieces, and place rolls in a greased pan.
Cover rolls and let rise, preheating oven to 375°F in the meantime.
Bake rolls for 35 minutes, then let cool for 20 minutes before frosting.
Mix confectioners' sugar, cream cheese, butter, and vanilla to prepare frosting.
Top cooled rolls with frosting and serve.
