INGREDIENTS
Chicken
- 🍗 7 pounds cut up chicken pieces
- 🥣 4 cups chicken stock
Vegetables
- 🧅 2 onions, chopped
- 🥬 3 stalks celery, chopped
Spices & Seasoning
- 🧂 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
Dumpling Ingredients
- 🥚 1 large egg
- 🥛 ¼ cup milk
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 🧂 1 teaspoon salt
- 🧈 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Gravy Ingredients
- 💧 1 cup water
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
STEPS
Gather the ingredients.
Place chicken pieces in a large pot with chicken stock, onions, celery, and salt. Bring to a boil and simmer until chicken is tender (15-20 minutes).
In a mixing bowl, beat egg and milk. Mix in 1 cup flour, baking powder, and salt.
Grate cold butter into the wet flour mixture and stir in parsley.
Drop spoonfuls of dumpling mixture onto the simmering chicken and steam dumplings until fluffy (10 minutes).
Remove dumplings and chicken; shred chicken and discard bones. Set aside and keep warm.
Strain stock from pot, pressing vegetables for flavor, then return stock to pot.
Whisk water with remaining flour and add to the stock. Season with pepper and boil until thickened.
Add shredded chicken back to the pot and top with dumplings. Garnish with parsley.
Serve and enjoy!
