INGREDIENTS

  • Meatballs

    • 🥚 1 large egg
    • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
    • 🧅 1/4 cup onion
    • 🥛 2 tablespoons milk
    • 🧂 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
    • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • 1 pound 85% lean ground beef
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Pasta

    • 8 ounces bowtie pasta
  • Sauce

    • 2 1/2 cups beef broth
    • 1 cup whipping cream
    • 4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • Garnish

    • 1 tablespoon fresh dill

STEPS

1

Grease a 7x11-inch baking dish.

2

Lightly beat the egg in a medium bowl. Stir in bread crumbs, onion, milk, salt, nutmeg, allspice, and cayenne pepper. Add ground beef and mix well. Shape into 1 1/2 tablespoon-sized meatballs.

3

Heat olive oil in a skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides for about 8 minutes. Note they will not be fully cooked.

4

Cook the pasta according to the package instructions. Drain and transfer to the greased baking dish.

5

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

6

Prepare the sauce by deglazing the skillet with beef broth. Bring to a boil and scrape up browned bits, then stir in whipping cream and Worcestershire sauce. Reduce the sauce until slightly thickened (about 6 to 8 minutes).

7

Nestle the browned meatballs on top of the pasta in the baking dish, and pour the sauce evenly over the dish.

8

Cover the dish with foil and bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

9

Remove the foil, sprinkle with shredded Gruyere cheese, and bake uncovered for another 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese has melted.

10

Garnish with fresh dill before serving.
