INGREDIENTS
Dough
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 ½ cups white sugar
- 🥚 2 eggs
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 🧂 ½ teaspoon salt
Coating
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C).
Mix the shortening, sugar, and eggs until creamy. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients using a wooden spoon until well-blended.
Roll the dough into balls the size of small walnuts.
Prepare the cinnamon and sugar mixture by mixing the cinnamon and sugar. Roll the cookie dough balls into the mixture until coated.
Place the coated dough balls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 6 to 10 minutes, ensuring they do not burn. They should be lightly brown and still soft-looking on top. Allow to cool; the top will crack slightly as they cool.

💡 For softer cookies, avoid overbaking. If the dough is too sticky, chill it in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes before rolling into balls. You can store the cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
