INGREDIENTS
Steak
- 2 (8 ounce) filet mignon steaks
- 🧂 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Cooking oil
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter or herb butter (optional)
Mushroom sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 (8 ounce) package sliced baby portobello mushrooms
- ¼ cup white wine
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup heavy cream
- Freshly cracked black pepper
- 2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
STEPS
Allow steaks to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Heat olive oil in a large oven-proof skillet over high heat. Season one side of steaks with salt and pepper. Place seasoned side down into the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Flip and season the other side.
Move the skillet to the preheated oven. Cook steaks 2-8 minutes depending on desired doneness.
Remove steaks from the skillet, tent with foil, and rest for 10 minutes.
Return skillet to stovetop. Melt butter, cook mushrooms for 5 minutes, deglaze with wine, and reduce liquid.
Add cream, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper. Simmer until thickened for 2 minutes. Stir in lemon juice.
Serve steaks with mushroom sauce and enjoy.
