INGREDIENTS
Meat
- 1 pound ground beef
Vegetables
- 🧅 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 🧄 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 🥕 5 large carrots, cut into rounds
- 🥔 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 cup green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
Liquids
- 💧 4 cups water
- 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 💧 2 tablespoons water
Condiments and Seasonings
- 2 tablespoons beef base
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 🌶 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon celery salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground marjoram
Binders & Thickeners
- 🌾 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
STEPS
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef, onion, and garlic in the hot skillet until beef is browned and crumbly and onion is translucent, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard grease.
Stir in 4 cups water, tomato sauce, beef base, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, celery salt, and marjoram; bring to a simmer. Add carrots and continue to simmer until tender, about 35 minutes.
Add potatoes and green beans, simmer until tender, about 15 minutes.
Mix flour and 2 tablespoons water together in a small bowl until no lumps remain; add more water if necessary. Stir mixture into stew; simmer until stew has thickened, 5 to 10 minutes.
