INGREDIENTS
Eggs
- 🥚 4 large fresh eggs
Seasonings
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 🧂 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes for garnish, or to taste
Dry Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups panko bread crumbs
Liquids
- 4 cups vegetable oil
Garnishes
- 2 tablespoons chopped pickled red onions (for garnish)
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (for garnish)
STEPS
Gather all ingredients.
Fill a saucepan with cold water and place over medium heat. Stir in vinegar and bring to a gentle, slow simmer.
Working with one egg at a time, crack an egg into a ramekin or measuring cup. Stir the water to create a whirlpool and drop the egg in the center. Cook until the egg white turns opaque.
Remove the egg from the water with a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Heat oil to 375°F (190°C) in a medium saucepan.
Set up a dredging station with flour in one bowl, eggs beaten with salt and pepper in another bowl, and breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
Dip each cooled egg into the flour, then the egg mixture, and finally the breadcrumbs, ensuring full coverage.
Drop each coated egg into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
Garnish with pickled red onions, green onions, and red pepper flakes. Serve immediately.
