INGREDIENTS
Nuts and Seeds
- 12 ounces pistachios
- 3/4 cup pistachio cream
- 2 tablespoons tahini
Dairy Products
- 1 cup butter
Pastry
- 1 (16 ounce) package phyllo dough
Sweeteners
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup honey
Liquids
- 1 cup water
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and gather all ingredients.
Pulse pistachios in a food processor until finely chopped. Add chocolate bar pieces and pulse again. Reserve 1/4 cup for topping.
Whisk tahini and pistachio cream together until combined; set aside.
Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter, layer phyllo dough with butter brushed in between, creating 8 layers.
Drizzle half of the pistachio cream over the pastry and sprinkle half of the chopped pistachio mixture. Repeat the buttered phyllo layering and finish with remaining cream and pistachio mixture.
Cut into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife and bake until golden brown and crisp, 40 to 45 minutes.
Prepare syrup by boiling water and sugar, then simmering with honey until syrupy, 15 to 20 minutes.
Pour syrup evenly over baked baklava and sprinkle with reserved pistachios. Let cool completely for 2 hours before serving.
